Monroe Shops was built in 1914 as a facility for the Texas Electric Railway to repair, maintain, and build Interurban trolley cars. DART renovated the NRHP-listed building as the DART Police Headquarters. The renovation, which has achieved LEED Platinum certification, brought the building back to life after a long hiatus, while adding sustainable value to the neighborhood, and return Monroe Shops to its original transportation mission.
